Guards dramatically reduce how often gutters clog and how much gets in, but mesh still needs occasional clearing of surface debris and the system should be inspected annually. Realistically, most guarded homes go from two cleanings a year to one light service every couple of years.

Only the right ones will. Standard screen guards let pine needles through and can actually make things worse. For pine-heavy properties we spec a tighter micro-mesh that needles cannot pass. This is why we look at your property before quoting.
